Inquiry Project - Inclusive Classrooms
One thing that is very important to me is a classroom where all children feel included and important. Children need to feel as though their presence in school is important not because elementary education in Canada is compulsory, but because they are a crucial facet of the classroom to their teacher and peers. Creating an inclusive classroom can be difficult through, especially for students with special needs. As an inquiry project, I researched different methods of creating an inclusive classroom for children with special needs, specifically children with an autism spectrum disorder.
On this site, which I have titled "Creating Inclusive Classrooms for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders" there are ideas for classroom arrangements, fidget toys and activities, blogs by educators and much more. It is a work in progress, and I hope to keep adding more ideas and suggestions as I teach in my own classroom and get to see other educators in theirs.
